A Hidden Gem

St Anne’s District Club has been a fixture on Clifton. Drive since it was founded in 1887. How many of us drive or walk past regularly and barely notice it is there? Behind the building however is the hidden gem of a beautiful bowling green.

The gardens surrounding the bowling green are cared for by Peter who has worked on them for over 8 years. Often there 7 days a week Peter has slowly improved the gardens and included more planting. There is even a border of Sweet Peas and tomatoes with the surrounding wall retaining the heat and protecting plants from the wind.

One corner has been left growing wild to encourage bees, bugs and wildlife whilst the surrounding areas are cultivated to provide year round colour. Dahlias and bedding plants are in flower just now with some Agapanthus doing nicely along with Gladioli which will come into flower later in the summer.

Peter has created a small nursery area where he cultivates plants from seeds and cuttings including some dwarf chrysanthemums which will be planted up as they grow on.

It was a pleasure to be shown around the gardens and I hope you enjoy the photographs.
